Befriending

As person-centred support is at the heart of all our services at Town Break, we see the person, and not their illness.  With this in mind our befriending service aims to support people living with dementia in a one-to-one setting.  Our Befriending Coordinator will meet with you and your relative at home where they jointly will assess your relative's interests, hobbies they may have, or any activities they may enjoy doing.

This process allows us to match a befriender and a client based on shared genuine personal interests or hobbies. All our befrienders receive training to ensure that they provide person centred support to individuals living with dementia, are fully trained in first aid, manual handling and are subject to an enhanced PVG check.

In 2015, our Befriending Service received funding for five years from the Life Changes Trust which has provided stability to the Service and enabled us to undertake intergenerational and group befriending, enabling us to reach a wider number of people with dementia and their unpaid carers.
